The 2022 Housing Blueprint

The Illinois Housing Blueprint is a 3–5-year statewide planning initiative that aims to create a vision for the future of equitable affordable housing in Illinois and lay out a plan for achieving it. The Illinois Housing Development Authority (IHDA) presents an update to the Inaugural Housing Blueprint (issued summer of 2021). The Blueprint is updated with new insight from what was analyzed and discovered in previous years. The following provides the 2022 update to the Illinois Housing Blueprint.

In conjunction with this Blueprint update, detailed Regional Profiles have been developed to be used to inform IHDA technical assistance, market analysis, programmatic targeting, and legislative advocacy. The 15 Regional Profiles are now available on the Illinois Regional Profiles page.

We invite all individuals to browse the plan and provide their feedback, questions, and hopes for future installments by submitting their thoughts and comments on this website’s Contact Us page. IHDA thanks all individuals who assisted this process and helped to create a vision for housing in Illinois. We look forward to continuing this work with all residents in the years to come.

As our world changes, our housing needs change too. Agencies, organizations, and residents across Illinois are working together to build a Housing Blueprint to ensure that we understand and can meet the housing needs of communities across our state both now and in the future.

A Collaborative Plan for Illinois

The Housing Blueprint is a statewide planning endeavor that will develop a vision for the future of housing in Illinois, and lay out a plan for achieving it. The Blueprint is coordinated by the Illinois Housing Development Authority (IHDA), however it is a product of the collective participation and collaboration of a wide and diverse group of agencies, organizations, and residents from across the state. Together, these groups have committed to sharing their perspectives, knowledge, and expertise to link to and leverage existing efforts already underway. The Blueprint also strives to engage and raise the voices of all Illinoisans to understand the realities, needs, and hopes for housing within communities both now and in the future. Repeated on an annual basis, the Housing Blueprint provides an opportunity to reflect on our state’s past impacts and achievements, assess opportunities for growth and change, and continually engage residents to be more inclusive of and relevant to the many communities throughout our state. We invite all individuals to take part in the Blueprint’s process.
